Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does divorce mediation cost?
Divorce mediation in Israel typically costs between 15,000 and 30,000 NIS for the couple together — compared to 100,000-150,000 NIS per side in a full litigation process. Average rate per mediation session: 300-700 NIS per party. The savings are not only financial — they're also emotional and time-related.
How long does mediation take?
An average divorce mediation takes 4-5 sessions, about 10 hours total, spread over a month to a month and a half. Each session lasts about an hour and a half, weekly. Unlike litigation that can last a year or more, couples who start mediation leave the process with a ready agreement within 6 weeks.
What if we don't reach agreement in mediation?
The parties can move to litigation at any stage. Importantly: everything said during mediation is confidential and cannot be presented in court. This allows parties to try creative solutions without fear that things will be used against them later.
When is mediation not suitable?
Mediation is not suitable in cases of domestic violence, extreme power imbalances between the parties, significant withholding of information (especially financial), or when one party is not genuinely interested in agreement and is using the process to delay.
Is a mediation agreement legally binding?
The agreement becomes legally binding only after approval by the Family Court or Rabbinical Court, after which it has the force of a judgment. Until then it's a written agreement between the parties. That's why it's important to sign and obtain court approval — we accompany the parties through the entire process.
Can mediation be done without representing attorneys?
Technically yes, but not recommended. Even in mediation, it's advised that each party get independent legal advice on the proposed agreement — to ensure it's fair and serves their long-term interests. I can function as a mediator or as a representing attorney, but not simultaneously for both parties.
